On Friday, November 9, 1888, 164 men and boys went to work at Frontenac Mine No. 2 of the Cherokee and Pittsburg Coal and Mining Company. All the men were probably looking forward to a peaceful week-end, away from the toils of their work.

Four suspects were taken into custody by Cherokee County Sheriff’s deputies Thursday.The deputies conducted a narcotics search warrant at 602 E. 24th Street, Galena,In addition to the deputies, the Galena Police and Kansas Bureau of Investigation participated in the investigation.
The ceremony featured remarks from senior Army leadership, Kevin Cruse, Mayor of Parsons and Day & Zimmermann executives, who stressed the importance of the shared commitment from the Army and industry/D&Z to develop a reliable, ready, and resilient munitions supply. This commitment to strengthening domestic production capacity is essential to maintaining readiness and sustaining the warfighter.
