Danny Lee Watkins, 40, was arrested Thursday by Cherokee County Sheriff’s Deputies on charges of failure to appear and is being held in lieu of $300 bail.

Helwig discusses week’s activities

This past week, the legislature was on break as bills passed by both the House and Senate were sent to the Governor for either signature or veto. State Representative Dale Helwig took that opportunity to discuss his activities.

Legion Auxiliary to host bingo

Classic Bingo is returning to Cherokee County thanks to the Columbus American Legion Auxiliary.Beginning Wednesday, April 15 at the American Legion Hall in Columbus, area residents will be able to enjoy the fast-paced game. Fundraiser set to support Columbus sports trainer

A pulled pork fundraiser will be held to raise funds to support Josh Brown to be held Monday, April 13 at the Columbus baseball and softball complex at 4:30 p.m.Josh is the trainer for the Columbus Titan baseball and softball teams.

Local clubs clean up Baxter Springs

The Baxter Springs Kiwanis and Key Clubs spent a Saturday morning recently cleaning up the roadways throughout the community. It is a springtime event annually and the club members make the task even more fun as they compete for the most trash.

Grain safety training open to public

The Public is welcome to attend the Grain Safety Training Saturday, April 11 at 2 p.m. at the Columbus Farmers Coop South location in coordination with Cherokee County Farm Bureau. Area fire department members will be participating in this important safety training.
