Miners Lamp awarded at Brutus meeting

It was 41 years ago the retired coal miners met to found what has become Southeast Kansas’ largest and best known tourist attraction.Each year the board of directors selects one person who has been helpful in making Big Brutus a great place to visit.

Cheyenna Kristian-Layne VonMoss, 27, was arrested Wednesday by Baxter Springs Police officers on charges of driving under the influence and is being held in lieu of $845 bail.Patrick Joseph Simmons, 43, was arrested on two warrants for another jurisdiction and is being held without bail.

Anna Mae Taylor, 46, was arrested Tuesday by Oswego Police officers on charges of possession of a controlled substance and possession of paraphernalia and three warrants and is being held in lieu of $6,000 bail.

Search warrant leads to seizure of drugs

A search warrant was served Monday in the 300 block of N. Florida in Columbus. Members of the Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office conducted the search stemming from an ongoing narcotics investigation.
