Cherokee County Jail Report

Dezamin Rea Scott Cunningham, 26, was arrested Wednesday by Cherokee County Sheriff’s Deputies on two counts of failure to appear and was released on $770 bail.

Three Southeast Middle School students started their spring break by being recognized for their hard work and achievements.

Fire results in total loss despite efforts

On the evening of March 13, the Columbus Fire Department responded to a working structure fire at 3205 SW Messer Road.At 5:39 p.m., firefighters were dispatched after reports of a residential structure fire.

Two injury accidents within an hour

Two injury accidents occurred in a short time span March 16. The first accident occurred at approximately 3:19 p.m. at the intersection of Highway U166 and Southwest 20th Street.A 1993 Chevrolet C15 driven by Timothy John Sherman, 26, Miami, Okla., was traveling south on Southwest 20th Street.

Amazon Army presentation at genealogy meet

Linda Knoll, local educator and historian, will be presenting a program titled “The March of the Amazon Army — The Fight For Labor Rights and Social Justice in the Kansas Coal Fields” Tuesday, March 24 at 6:30 p.m. at the Cherokee County Genealogy Library located at 100 South Tennessee in Columbus.

Livestock Association makes plans for Expo

The annual Spring Livestock Show Expo sponsored by the Cherokee County Livestock Improvement Association will be held Saturday, April 25, at the Cherokee County Fairgrounds. The show will feature beef, market lambs, goats, and swine.
