A donation of 690 acres of Cherokee County land near Southwest Beasley Road and the Neosho River was made by the Kansas Nature Conservancy to the Kansas Department of Wildlife and Tourism.
The land was donated to the Conservancy by the federal Natural Resource Damage Fund which was part of the lead and zinc mining.
