After a rather shallow showing during the February tournament, the Columbus Bass Club came back with bigger and better bites than ever during their March tournament. A total of 17 of the area’s most able anglers appeared to try their hand during the March 19 competition.

Disabled artist Martha Honeywell made silhouettes

A recent catalog gave a description of a silhouette as “cut by mouth.” Martha Ann Honeywell (1786- 1856) was a disabled artist who cut silhouettes and did needlework without using her hands. She was born without hands or forearms and was also missing two toes.

St. Patrick’s Day is PEO theme

Baxter Springs’ Chapter BT of the P.E.O. Sisterhood met Monday, March 7 in the fellowship hall of the United Methodist Church in Baxter Springs. Linda Crotts and Judy Brewster served as hostesses. The tables were decorated with a St. Patrick’s Day theme.

The annual Lenten fish fry at the St. Bridget’s, Catholic Church Parish Hall continues to be a popular spot for Friday evenings meal. Payton Herrenbruck, is refilling the fish chaffing dish. The Knights of Columbus and the Alter Society conduct the fish fry every Friday through April 8.

Wichita State posts fall 2021 deans list

Wichita State University has announced the names of students who were on the WSU dean’s honor roll for fall 2021. To be included on the dean’s honor roll, a student must be enrolled full time (at least 12 credit hours) and earn at least a 3.5 grade point average on a 4.0 scale.
