Columbus Museum ReportJuly was a very unusual month here at the museum. I thought after 23 and a half years working here I had seen and done it all. Boy, was I wrong.On the third of the month, I was greeted by an unwanted visitor. He was waiting for me outside the door. It was a small snake.

Style Revue showcases construction, buymanship skills

In the Junior Buymanship class at the Annual 4-H Style Revue, Reagan Holmes (right) was the Grand Champion for her formal wear. Elisabeth King (left) was Reserve Champion for her active wear. The annual revue was held at Columbus First Christian Church just before Fair Week.

Art show at Maple UnCommon

Connie Miller will have her artwork on display at Maple UnCommon during the months of August and September. She is shown with a few of the pieces from her Church Lady series.Chadan Tomlin, shown with his piece Newspaper Man, has his work on display during August and September at Maple UnCommon. 

USD 247 welcomes new faculty

Kyra Trejo will be teaching first grade at Southeast Elementary School. She is a graduate of the University of Missouri at Kansas City. She spent one year as a kindergarten teacher and has most recently been a stay at home mom for a year.

Tough night for Columbus Bass Club anglers on Pit 33 South

A tough night of fishing was on the agenda for the 17 Columbus Bass Club teams who showed up at Pit #33 South, July 20.With rain moving in, the fish were poised to be biting. Unfortunately for Columbus Bass Club Anglers that was not the case.

Huffman celebrates ninetieth birthday with family, friends

Family and friends joined Melvin Huffman for his 90th birthday. Those attending enjoyed a buffet lunch as well as cake and cupcakes. The event was held at the Weir Community Center.Melvin Huffman recently celebrated his 90th birthday surrounded by family and friends.

Plan now to enter CDF car show

Chairperson for the Columbus Day Car Show is Becky McDaniel of Real Pro Real Estate. They are accepting pre-registrations for the Car Show at the 2024 Columbus Day Festival. They have been attending area car shows and inviting car owners to attend the Columbus event.

Columbus Unified High School Senior Presley Ted- lock was presented a $28,000 Miss Kansas Pag- eant Scholarship by pageant representative Anna Holman at the Senior Awards Ceremony held May 17 at the CUHS Gymnasium.

Cherokee County 2024 horse show reserve champions

Katherine King was the Reserve Champion in intermediate showmanship during the annual Cherokee County Horse ShowThe Cherokee County 2024 horse show was held prior to Fair Week. The ribbon for Reserve Champion pony was awarded to Airauna Sharp.
