Fall 2023 KSU honors

Kansas State University has announced semester honors for academic performance in the fall 2023 semester. The following students from Cherokee County have been named to the list. Mya Hamilton and Keegan Harris from Columbus and from Baxter Springs, Monica Tanner.

Dean’s List released by Missouri State

Each semester, students at Missouri State University who attain academic excellence are named to the dean’s list. Michael Shepard from Columbus made the list. Shepard was among more than 5,100 students named to the fall 2023 dean’s list.

Riverton man sentenced

In a plea bargain Monday, John D. Naugle II, 44, Riverton pleaded guilty to unlawfully possessing a firearm and possessing a controlled substance. Under the terms of the plea bargain, each count would incur a four-year suspended sentence.

USD 247 recognizes six board members

January is School Board Recognition Month. USD 247 Board members meet at least once a month, between 5:30 p.m. and 6 p.m. and staying until the job is done; serving as education advocates.

Baxter seventh, eighth honor rolls announced

Baxter Springs seventh and eighth grades have released their honor rolls. Those making the eighth grade All A’s Honor Roll include Jadynn Brandon, Henry Bresee, Weston Buck, Emma Holbert, Oliver Kerr, Faith Murray, Jada Palmer, Cole Parrish, Maliah Thomas and Elliott Zanatta.

Cherokee County 4-H hosted a Prom Dress Resale event over the weekend. Despite frigid temperatures, volunteers turned out to help customers choose the perfect dress for upcoming formal events.
