Park to get name change?

Monday night the Columbus City Council is scheduled to discuss changing the name of Discovery Park to recognize those who donated money to build the splash pad and restrooms.

Each year members of the Columbus Lions Club search out, cut, assemble and decorate the town’s Christmas tree. When the holiday season is over, members return to take down and recycle the tree and store the decorations for another year.

COVID-19 update from officials

Updates on the Cherokee County COVID-19 policy continued to be relayed to the County Commissioners during Monday morning’s meeting. A public CDC isolation and quarantine guideline was discussed as to how it related to the county and their policies going forward into 2022.

Tom Goettel named to Educator Hall of Fame

Highly popular history teacher Tom Goettel will be inducted into the USD 493 Education Hall of Fame for 2021-2022. The Education committee of the Columbus Chamber of Commerce is pleased made the announcement this week.

Former council member John Paradee dies

Over the years there have been several City Council members who have dedicated their retirement years to public service. One of those, John Paradee, died last week at his home in Columbus. Though the Council members get little note for their positive contributions to the city.
