County Clerk Rennie resigns from office

The resignation of Cherokee County Clerk Kyle Rennie was accepted Monday by the Cherokee County Commissioners. The resignation is effective December 30, 2021, according to Rennie.

Community Christmas dinner set Saturday

It’s time for the annual Community Christmas Dinner. This year, the event will be held as a drive though at the 4-H Building in Columbus. The menu will consist of turkey, ham, mashed potatoes, gravy, green beans, corn, fruit salad and a dessert. Meal service will begin at 11:30 a.m.

Baxter Chamber Christmas parade sees over 60 entries

Over 60 entries were in this year’s Baxter Springs Chamber of Commerce Christmas Parade. It lasted 45 minutes, which was much bigger than years past. This years Christmas Parade was extra special. The parade was full of entries from businesses, churches, organizations and individuals.

Many figural tobacco jars were made in the late 1800s and early 1900s, marked with just the letters “JM” or the letters and the printed word “Bohemia” or “Czechoslovakia.” The jars held loose pipe tobacco, but they were not humidors made to control humidity.
