A second Cherokee County Judge has announced his intention to retire from the bench as Judge Samuel Marsh has announced his leaving December 31 of this year. Judge Oliver Kent Lynch retired August 1. The 11th Judicial District Nominating Commission convened by telephone conference at 2 p.m.

Appraiser now certified by state

Officially becoming the Cherokee County Appraiser, David Thornton Monday presented the County Commissioners with paperwork confirming that he was certified as an appraiser and put back on an eligibility list. His current appointment will expire December 31, 2021.

Nearly five years after the incident, Brian Waterman was found guilty Thursday by a Cherokee County jury. The guilty on all counts verdict was issued by the eight man and six woman jury after hearing three days of evidence and witnesses.

Area Accident Report

A car vs. deer accident occurred November 16 at approximately 6:25 a.m. A 2015 Ford Taurus driven by Bryan D. Miller, 54, Baxter Springs, was traveling north on Highway 43 south of Joplin, Mo., at Route C. Miller struck a deer in the roadway. He was taken to Freeman West in Joplin, Mo.
