Corn hole tournament set in Baxter

A corn hole tournament sponsored by the Baxter Springs American Legion Auxiliary Unit 206 is planned Saturday. There will be hot dogs, hamburgers and chips. Cookies and drinks will be sold separately. Cost to play is $10 per person with 80-percent pay out. Tournament will begin at 10 a.m.

Cruise-in, art festival Saturday in Oswego

A special event is coming to Oswego. The first ever car cruise-in and art festival is happening Saturday in the downtown area. Automobiles, bikes and trucks are welcome to cruise down to 4 th and Commercial. One hundred commemorative dash plaques will be given to cruise participants.

Area librarians attend virtual legal workshop

A special Zoom session presented by the Southeast Kansas Library System (SEKLS) was held May 6. Local librarians Andrea Bresee from Johnston Public Library and Lauren Dainty from Columbus Public Library attended the virtual “Keeping it Legal” workshop.

A donation in the amount of $100 was presented to Baxter Springs Fire Department recently. State Farm Agency has been collecting donations for the BSFD over the past few months giving a portion of new policies back to the community.

Bond issue will add classrooms

With the passage of the $14.75 million bond issue A new wing will be added at the Columbus High School to accommodate the seventh grade students. The classroom wing will be built where the former arts and industrial arts building has stood for nearly 100 years.
