In memory of Charlie Button a beautiful magnolia tree was planted Saturday afternoon on the Johnston Public Library grounds where the Boy Scout Troop #15 held their annual bean feed. George Moss donated a stone in memory of Button that reads - Husband, Father, Scoutmaster, Coworker, Friend.

A new board member on the Community Health Center of Southeast Kansas Board of Directors, will be Jake Letner as the Cherokee County representative on the board. Letner is the City of Columbus Community Development Coordinator.

With the warm summer weather comes the harvest and with the harvest, the grain trucks. Just after 5 p.m. on Saturday, June 19th, emergency personnel responded to the area of Southeast 50th and Quaker Road, where a 1994 International grain truck had overturned dumping wheat on the roadway.

County budget process to begin

The 2022 budget process will officially begin today (Monday) for the Cherokee County Commission. There will be seven department heads presenting their proposed budgets to the commissioners to open the process.

No winner in weekly Prizweek Puzzle game

The Prizeweek Puzzle continues to evade the players as once again there was no grand prize winner last week. Jack Brown, Galena, won the consolation prize of $10 while the $1,000 grand prize goes unclaimed. The puzzle is on page 5 of today’s News-Report.

The restroom and storage building

The restroom and storage building at Eddington Park is under construction. On Saturday morning the pre-cast cement walls were set in place. All four sides were set in place and the building was constructed in less than a day at the site.
