The masted sailing ship associated with Christopher Columbus will apparently remain on the Chamber of Commerce logo. Ȧ request to consider removing the caravel type sailing ship from the logo was rejected by the membership according to Chamber Executive Director Jean Pritchett.

Seven area fire departments responded to a single- story structure fire at 100 South East Badger Road near Galena on Wednesday afternoon. The house was vacant due to the family being on vacation.

Deadline to order poly carts June 25

The city of Columbus is taking orders for the final rounds of poly carts. Any household that does not pre-order their preferred size of poly cart will be delivered a 95-gallon cart. This is the largest size and can be difficult for some people to handle when filled.

Wheat harvest underway in the county

With the combines in the field and the grain trucks on the highways, it is obvious the wheat harvest in Cherokee County is underway. According to the Farmer’s Coop General Manager Matt Case some test loads came in last week and the full loads are starting.

County gets COVID funds

A payment from the federal government in the amount of $1,936,588.50 was received by Cherokee County, representing half of the COVID-19 funds expended by the county last year. Another payment of equal amount will be paid in November, Treasurer Raven Elmore told the Commissioners Monday.
