Lightning struck the Optic Communications’ (Columbus Telephone Company) main router shutting down their internet system for about two hours.
The event happened during the very early hours Saturday morning, according to David Soper, General Manager of the internet provider.

A former Columbus police officer was arrested Monday afternoon on charges of aggravated battery, aggravated burglary and several other charges.
Patrick James Dobyns, 38, was arrested by Columbus Police Officers after a complaint was filed.
“During the past two weeks, we saw an increase of 48 positive cases of COVID-19 in Cherokee County,” said Sheriff David Groves spokesperson for the County COVID-19 task force. “That compares to nine new positive cases during the two week period prior.

Logan Jasper Baker, 20, was arrested Sunday by Cherokee County Sheriff’s Deputies on charges of purchase of liquor by a minor and pedestrians under the influence of alcohol or drugs and is being held in lieu of $1,000 bail.
