Cherokee County Jail Report

Eric Scott Carder, 36, was arrested Sunday by Cherokee County Sheriff’s Deputies on charges of domestic battery; knowing or reckless bodily harm and is being held in lieu o $10,000 bail.

Nathaniel George Rush, 29, was arrested Saturday by Chetopa Police officers on charges of driving while suspended and was released on $300 bail.

Hearing loss: Are you at risk?

I recently gave a program on Noise Induced Hearing Loss (NIHL) to a group of farmers, gardeners, and business people. The surveys completed after the program showed that most people were not concerned about Noise Induced Hearing Loss prior to the program.

Deadline nears for Boys State registration

The American Legion Boys State of Kansas has announced that the deadline to register for the 2021 session has been extended until Wednesday, June 30. Individuals can continue to register after that date, but only on a space-available basis.

The Columbus SKIL Resource Center’s free customer appreciation picnic, will be held from 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. June 10, at Columbus City Park in Columbus. The event will include a free Coronavirus vaccination clinic provided by Labette Health. The public is invited.

Summer brings with it outdoor activities. Some upcoming events include Columbus Saddle Club’s second annual Bulls and BBQ at the rodeo arena June 25. IPRA-ICRA rodeo will be held June 26 and 27, with all rodeo events scheduled each evening. Rodeo will begin at 8 p.m.

So many times we forget where our food supply comes from and forget to say “thank you” to our area farmers, ranchers and others businesses involved in agriculture. The Chamber Agriculture committee, chaired by Matt Case, is working on one upcoming project.

US Open at Claythorne this week

After four years of planning and being cancelled in 2020 due to the pandemic, the 2021 US Open Shoot will take place at Claythorne Lodge June 7 – 13. At present, over 1,100 shooters from all across the United States will be in attendance. It will not be just 1,100 shooters coming.
