Flags stolen from Greenlawn Cemetery

Fifteen large American Flags were among items stolen at Greenlawn Cemetery just before the Memorial Day holiday. Volunteers were preparing to put the flags out at the cemetery for the holiday when they discovered the flags and the antique staffs holding them were stolen from the cemetery building.

Escapees captured in NE Oklahoma

Both of the prisoners escaping from the Cherokee County Law Enforcement Center on Monday were captured Friday in northeast Oklahoma. They were arrested following a near week-long manhunt which resulted in both the fugitives being captured together.

Due to an error in reporting the price of a season’s swim pass at the Columbus Swimming Pool was misquoted. The annual pass for an individual is $55 at the Columbus Municipal Pool.

Cherokee County Jail Report

Tanner Shane Walker, 26, was arrested Thursday by Galena Police officers on charges of domestic battery; physical contact in rude manner, assault, battery of a law enforcement officer and interference with law enforcement officer; obstruct or resist and is being held in lieu of $5,500 bail.

Area Accident Report

Two Labette County men died in a head on collision, Wednesday, May 26, at approximately 2:19 p.m., on Highway U59 three-tenths of a mile south of 22000 Rd in Labette County. A 2001 Ford F150 driven by Jason Clay Hopkins, 43, Parsons, was traveling north on Highway U59.

Students learn bike safety at Lincoln

Baxter Springs students at Lincoln Elementary learn bike safety, and have fun practicing their skills during the annual Bike Rodeo. Gene Nelson gave presentation on bike safety. Such as, wear bright colors during the day and reflective gear at night.
