Thursday afternoon rain waters flooded the intersection of 16 th Street and Military Avenue in downtown Baxter Springs. The problem was thought to be the new drain had failed to work. The entire parking lot of the unfinished Family Dollar store and surrounding businesses were flooded.

Resurfacing project on K-7 north of 400

A resurfacing project on K-7 in Crawford County is expected to begin the week of June 7 according to the Kansas Department of Transportation (KDOT). The project area starts at the U.S. 400 junction and continues north for 11 miles, ending at the south city limits of Girard.

Former local 4H’er gets ‘30 under 30’ award

Douglas Lee Beck, 49, was admitted to the Cherokee County Law Enforcement Center Sunday on a court ordered commitment. Clarissa D. Murray, 32, was arrested Sunday by Cherokee County Sheriff’s Deputies on charges of domestic battery; knowing or reckless bodily harm and was released on $1,000 bail.
