Cherokee County Food Fight donations drop

The second annual Cherokee County Food Fight ended with a somewhat dismal total compared to the first year totals. The total for 2021 was 5,555 pounds just over half of the 10,780 pounds in 2020. Galena took the championship this year with a total of 3,040 pounds of non-perishable food stuffs.

Joshua Jeremiah Baxter, 28, was arrested Friday by Cherokee County Sheriff’s Deputies on charges of theft of property or services and was released on $463 bail.

Joseph Lawrence Riley, 42, was admitted to the Labette County Law Enforcement Center Saturday to serve 48 hours for Oswego Police officers.

A car vs. deer accident occurred April 17 at approximately 8:27 p.m. A 2019 Ford Expedition driven by Colton Moates, 17, Baxter Springs, was traveling south on Southeast Highway 69A. Moates struck a deer in the roadway near Southeast US Highway 400. Cherokee County Sheriff’s Deputies investigated.
