25 Years Ago Dec. 31, 1998-Jan. 6, 1999 Doug Gatewood, former Columbus mayor and new state representative, congratulated the new mayor, Anita Davolt. On Gatewood’s resignation, Anita Davolt, president of the Columbus City Council, became mayor and was sworn into office by City Clerk Kay Thomas.
