Sheriff David Groves said Thursday he may not resign his position and could possibly remain in office until after the November election. Groves announced in April that he would be leaving his position as Sheriff to take a new job outside law enforcement.

The Carona Memories print is a limited edition from an original oil painting by noted Texas railroad artist John Winfield. It was commissioned by the Heart of the Heartlands Railroad Historical Society and denotes a typical day in Carona, Kansas circa 1950. Carona is located in Cherokee County in the heart of the Southeast Kansas coal belt and was established in 1886 as Folsom.

David Javier Rodriguez, 38, was arrested Sunday by Cherokee County Sheriff’s Deputies on charges of driving under the influence and possession of a firearm under the influence and was released on $5,000 bail.
At least four people were injured and hundreds of buildings damaged after two tornadoes hit the Wichita, area Friday evening, officials said. Approximately 1,000 structures were damaged between Sedgwick County, where at least one tornado first formed, and Butler County.
Blackleg is a preventable, soilborne disease of both cattle and sheep. Caused by an anaerobic, soilborne bacterium, it’s almost always lethal. It will infect sheep of any age, but it mainly affects cattle from six months to two years old, usually the fast-growing, high-performance animals.
