25 Years Ago June 12 - 18, 1997 The Cherokee County Sportsmen’s Association held its annual free fishing tournament. Largest fish was caught by Frances Patton. Smallest fish was caught by Laura Preston. Casting winners 6 and under were Lainie Fouts, Jace Moore and Josh Crain.

John White I know everybody here and we get to see them. I’ve been coming since it started. Margaret White It is so nice to visit with the long time friends. We have been coming at least 30 years. Les Heflin I’ve been coming to most all of them. It is a good time and good food.

The Columbus Public Library will be open to the public, with a five person limit. Mondays 9 a.m.-6 p.m. Tuesdays 9 a.m.-6 p.m. Wednesday 9 a.m-6 p.m.. Thursdays 9 a.m.-6 a.m. Fridays 9 a.m.-6 p.m. Fridays 9 a.m.-6 p.m. Saturdays 10 a.m.-noon. Curbside service will be available upon request.

25 Years Ago June 5 - 11, 1997 Charles and Augusta Yagher, of rural Columbus, celebrated their 64 th wedding anniversary June 3 at their home with a surprise reception. Among those attending were their son-in-law and daughter, Orval and Betty Smith and their son, Charles Yagher Jr.

Exhibitors to register on-line for Cherokee County Fair

Online entries will be required for all exhibitors at the Cherokee County Fair this year whether 4-H, FFA, or Open class. 4-H and FFA entries need to be entered and submitted by 5 p.m. June 17. Entries can be submitted until the June 24 at 5 p.m. but there will be a $25 late fee.

Public water works appreciated

Dear Editor, Waking up without water, especially graduation weekend, could have been a disaster in Columbus. As a local business owner with a Guest House and Gallery, the fear of sending potential guests (and those who were already here) elsewhere is an option that was almost a grim reality.
