Opening night of the All-School Reunion featured dinner at the State Theatre Event Center. The buffet style meal was served under a large banner showcasing past and present school mascots, as well as historic and current photos of Columbus landmarks.

Ezra Graves, son of Cody and Tiffany Graves, has completed the “1,000 Books Before Kindergarten” challenge at Johnston Public Library, Baxter Springs. The challenge is part of a national program to encourage reading in early childhood.

Susan Meissner is one of my favorite authors. Born in San Diego in 1961, she continues to write books that I particularly enjoy reading. Currently, she has written 26: three of these were co-authored for the series “Men of Lancaster County”. Her latest work is titled “Only the Beautiful”.

The Baxter Springs Girl Scouts received a helping hand from American Bank as the bank purchased several cases of Girl Scout Cookies which had gone unsold. The girls then delivered the cookies to the thrift store as a thank-you to the men and women in the department.

Wichita State University has announced that Kaitlyn L. Gipson of Riverton graduated Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Arts in Education, ECU/ Elementary Educ Apprentice in spring 2023. Undergraduate students who have attained a grade point average of 3.9 out of a possible 4.

American Bank vice-president Judy Hill was joined by Girl Scouts Kinley Capps and Sutton Russell as they presented the cookies to Police Chief Brian Henderson, and officers Jimmy Hamilton and Rhanda Andrews.

Columbus Public Library Board met June 12. The meeting was called to order at 5:40 p.m. by President Curtis Wheatley. Also present were board members: Becky Glover, Jessica Rider, Maggie Mooney, and Shari Napier. Library staff members present were Lauren Dainty and Trish Windsor.

Aubree Saporito was awarded the Charles L. McColm American Legion Memorial Scholar- ship through the Columbus Community Foun- dation Scholarship Advisory Committee. Aubree maintained a 2.5 GPA or higher and is planning to enter a care-giving field.
