Robert Richards, 67, Columbus

Robert John Richards, 67, Columbus died February 18, 2024, at his home.

Born May 13, 1956, in Columbus John was the son of Robert and Elvera (Smith) Richards.

John was a graduate from Columbus Unified High School in 1974 and went on to earn his double bachelor’s degree in computer science and math from Pittsburg State University in 1978. He started his career as a Computer Analyst and worked for Ace Electric, Sunbeam in Neosho and CFI where he later retired.

John and Mary Albertson were united in marriage February 18, 1984 Columbus at the First Baptist Church. She survives of home.

John was an active member of the community; he cherished gardening, movies, watching the Kansas City Chiefs, cheering on the Royals, exploring new destinations, hunting ducks, golfing, and fishing. He was a skilled woodworker.

His commitment extended to serving as a dedicated deacon, trustee and Sunday school teacher at the First Baptist Church in Columbus.

He was preceded in death by his parents and sister Kristie Richards.

In addition to his wife, John is survived by his daughter Kelsie Richards of Columbus and her partner Becca Nobles-Jackson with their children Madisyn and Maleigha and his son Robert Andrew Richards and spouse Makenzie of Springfield, Mo., and their daughter Nora; several cousins, nieces and nephews also survive.

Funeral Services were held at 11 a.m. Thursday, February 22 at the Bath-Naylor Funeral Home in Columbus. Burial followed at the Hosey Hill Cemetery in Weir.
