Betty L. Guy, 88, Columbus, died peacefully in her home at Gran Villas Friday, March 1, 2024.
Born November 30, 1935 Betty was the daughter of Pearly Elmer and Pearl (North) Gatewood.
She had two brothers, Homer Gatewood and Charles Gatewood, they preceded her in death.
She graduated from Cherokee County Community High School in May of 1953.
Betty and Bob D. Guy were united in marriage July 2, 1953. In 2008 they celebrated 55 years of marriage. He preceded her in death February 12, 2009.
Betty was a homemaker, raising their three children and helping on the family farm. She enjoyed working with flowers, cooking, and their beloved dogs and horses.
Her greatest joy in life was her family and all the get togethers and holidays they shared.
Having a love of flowers, she worked at Welch’s Flower Shop and Country Gardens, both in Columbus for several years. She dearly loved the people she worked with and met during her working years.
Betty moved from the farm to Columbus in July 2009 and enjoyed visiting with her neighbors on the patio, sharing her baked goods, taking care of her plants and landscaping.
In addition to her parents, brothers and husband, she was preceded in death by son James (Jim) D. Guy January 16, 2024.
Survivors include two daughters Bobbi Koons and her husband Paul of Columbus and Jan Locke and her husband Randy, of Erie; Seven grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren also survive.
Cremation arrangements are being handled by Derfelt Funeral Home of Columbus.
A Memorial Service will be held at the funeral home, Friday, March 9 at 10 a.m. The family will receive friends following. In lieu of flowers the family requests that memorial contributions may be made payable to The Gran Villas, in care of the funeral home, in honor of Betty.
