The official start of the Historical Public art mural project had a large turnout Wednesday morning at the Baxter Springs Military Park adjacent to the water works. Those present included the muralists A.J. Wood, Jordan Wood, Jaicey Gillum from the Kansas Office of Rural Development, Mayor Kelly Abbott, State Senator Tim Shallenburger, Economic Development Director Dale Helwig, and Jennifer Burton Public Art Committee chair.
Candidates Jack Garner, Paul Rogers and Nate Jones visit during the Baxter Springs Chamber of Commerce Forum Tuesday morning. Fifteen candidates for local and state offices attended as well as several interested voters. Each had a chance to visit with the candidates.
The empty space on the Baxter Springs water works plant is about to become the home of a historical art mural.
Welcoming visitors on Route 66 using an otherwise empty space on the east side of the waterworks clear well will be a colorful 100 foot long mural. The clear well sits directly across the street from the high school and junior high school on Military Ave.
