Just before noon Tuesday area firefighters were summoned to a hay bale fire at 2101 Southwest Greenlawn where 40 to 50 bales were engulfed. Firefighters from Baxter Springs and Columbus were able to bring the fire under control saving some of the
bales. The fire was started by sparks from a mowing machine.
