Cassandra Lea Delmont

Cassandra Lea Delmont, 42, Overland Park, formerly of Columbus, died Sunday, September 8, 2024, due to complications from a stroke she suffered in April.

Born January 25, 1982, at Maude Norton Memorial Hospital in Columbus, Cassandra was the daughter of Jacque Delmont and Ed Delmont.

Cassandra attended Columbus Unified High School, graduating in 2000. She attended Baker University in Baldwin City, for one year, then transferred to Pittsburg State University where she graduated with her Bachelor of Science Degree in December 2003. In May of 2008, she completed her Master of Science in Educational Leadership and in 2013, obtained her K-12 District Level Certification.

Cassandra began her teaching career in 2004 as a Special Education Life Skills teacher in Gardner. In 2011, she joined the Blue Valley School District as a Coordinator in Special Education. In 2016, she moved to Assistant Director of Special Education and in 2022 she was promoted to Director of Secondary Special Education, the position she held until the time of her passing. She served on various committees and boards promoting the advancement of Special Education.

One of Cassandra’s most meaningful projects was her involvement in the implementation of the Blue Valley Food Pantry. While a vital asset to the community, Cassandra’s true joy came from the opportunities being provided to the Special Education students of Blue Valley.

Cassandra married Ben Chapman July 13, 2012, in Ottawa. He survives of the home.

She was preceded in death by grandparents; Boyd Williams, Ralph and Annaritta Delmont, and Dale and Marcella Chapman Additional survivors include daughter; Stella, parents; Jacque Delmont and Ed Delmont (Denise), sister; Casey Long (Nate), In-Laws; Perry and Diane Chapman, Sister In-Law; Emily Piper (Ty), Grandparents; Shirley Williams and George and Janet French, and many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, and nephews also survive.

Cassandra loved a good book, online shopping (packages are still arriving.), and sitting by the firepit on a cool evening. She enjoyed cooking, baking, and scrolling social media for new recipes to share. From desserts to cocktails, she was always excited to try something new to share with the people she loved. Her compassion for others will live on in her generous organ/tissue donation. Cassandra’s ultimate love was her family, nothing meant more.
