Wanda Elaine Evans, 76, Altamont, died at 1:30 p.m., Saturday, September 28, 2024, at her home.
Born September 30, 1947, in Paris Island, South Carolina, Wanda was the daughter of Benjamin and Zandra May (Wines) Outain. Growing up in a military family, Wanda moved with her family throughout the country, settling in Chetopa, where Wanda graduated from Chetopa High School in 1967.
For many years, Wanda worked as a seamstress at Fred Ronalds Manufacturing, which was later Signature Sportswear in Parsons. Her favorite job was being a custodian at Bartlett Grade School for several years. After holding both jobs for a time, she retired in 2006.
She attended the First Baptist Church in Oswego. The last several years, Wanda enjoyed going to the many activities at the Altamont Senior Center.
Her greatest joy came from spending time with her family. She also liked “treasure hunting” at garage sales and discount stores. Scrapbooking, doing arts and crafts, reading, putting together puzzles and solving word games were some of her other favorite hobbies.
Wanda and Richard W. Evans were united in marriage at the United Methodist Church in Chetopa June 12, 1967. He preceded her in death May 6, 2010.
In addition to her husband, Wanda was preceded in death by three brothers, Mike Resz, Sam Resz, and Steve Outain; and one grandson, Garett Britton.
Survivors include four daughters Sonya Rhodes and her husband, Mark, of Chetopa; Tonya Williamson and her husband, Tommy, of Oswego; Sherri Hunt and her husband, Bill, of Pittsburg and Tara Britton of Wichita; 15 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; three sisters Jeanine Burch of Welch, Oklahoma; Sheryl Wright and her husband, Tom, of Emden, Missouri; and Michelle Collins and her husband, Mike, of Burleson, Texas.
The funeral service will be held at 10 a.m., Thursday, October 3 at the First Baptist Church of Oswego. The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., Wednesday, October 2, at the Forbes-Hoffman Funeral Home of Parsons.
