Vernon Jordan, 87, Galena, died at his home Friday, September 27, 2024, at 9:03 a.m. surrounded by his family.
Born in Southwest Missouri May 8, 1937, Vernon was the son of Ted Oscar Jordan and Helen Maxine (Chew) Jordan. He graduated from Galena High School with the Class of 1955. Throughout his life, he worked as a carpenter, and was a member of Sixth Street Baptist Church in Galena.
Vernon and Evelyn “Sue” Jordan were united in marriage September 28, 1958. She preceded him in death April 3, 2024. He was also preceded in death by one son in law, Jerry Riedinger.
Survivors include one daughter, Peggy Riedinger of Bellevue, Wash.; two sons, Michael Jordan (wife, Diane) of Topeka, and David Jordan (wife, Kendra) of Welch, Okla.; eight grandchildren, Chris, Ross, Caleb, Stephen, Brenton, Carissa, Alicia, and Coleman; and four greatgrandchildren; one sister, Mary Hayes (husband, Lyman) of Joplin, Mo.; and one brother, Stephen Jordan (wife, Cindy) of Joplin, Mo., also survive.
Vernon has been entrusted to Derfelt Funeral Home of Galena for cremation. The family will host a joint celebration of life for Vernon and Sue at a later date.
