Janet Ann Spencer, 66, Scammon, died at 7:25 a.m., Saturday, September 28, 2024, at her home following an illness.
Born October 2, 1957, in Columbus, Janet was the daughter of Thomas H “Sonny” and Alice (Torchia) Ligon. She grew up in 42 Camp, near Scammon.
She graduated from Columbus High School with the class of 1976. Janet lived in Weir for 17 years, before moving to Carona where she had lived since 1996. She had worked as a cook at Pittsburg Health and Rehab., for over 30 years, retiring in 2022. Janet enjoyed reading, and her flowers, but her greatest pleasure was spending time with her grandchildren and family gatherings, especially the cookouts with homemade ice cream.
Janet and Glenn R. Spencer were united in marriage October 16, 1976, in Columbus. He survives.
She was preceded in death by her parents, and one brother, Thomas Ligon Jr.
Additional survivors include one son, Jason Spencer (Charity) of Scammon; one daughter, Michele L. Piper of Joplin, Mo.; three brothers, Richard Ligon (Connie) of Topeka; Don Ligon (Bobbie) of Ozark, Mo., and Gary Ligon (Patty) of Columbus; five grandchildren, Kolten Shadden, Dylan Piper, Madyson Spencer, Lizah Spencer and Natalie Spigelmyer-Loyd also survive.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Thursday, October 3 at Derfelt Funeral Home in Columbus. Duane Elmore will officiate. Burial in Lone Elm Cemetery, Columbus, will be at a later date.
The family will receive friends from 5 p.m. – 7 .pm. Wednesday, October 2 at the funeral home.
