Larry L. Cowan, 89, San Antonio, N.M. formerly of Columbus, died October 7 2024.
Born in Melrose April 11, 1935, Larry was the son of Bud and May Cowan. He was the oldest of two children. He graduated from Columbus High School in 1953 and enlisted in the United States Army where he served as a paratrooper.
After the Army, Larry went to work for Eagle Picher Industries, transferring to New Mexico. He had lived in San Antonio since 1979, moving from Galena. Larry retired after a 40 plus year career.
Larry was a Rodeo Announcer in the four- state area throughout the 1970’s. He was an avid hunter and in later years competed in the New Mexico Senior Olympics in archery and horse shoes.
He and Gayle Edwards were united in marriage December 6,1958, she preceded him in death in June 1990. They had one child, Mike Cowan and wife Minda of Galena.
In 1992 he married Louisa of San Antonio, N.M. she survives. He has four grandchildren and six great grandchildren. Services for Larry will be held in Santa Fe, New Mexico on October 25.
