Doris Lee Naylor, 98, Weir, died at 7:44 p.m. Tuesday December 31, 2024 at Mercy Hospital in Pittsburg, following a short illness.
Born October 2, 1926, in McCune, Doris was the daughter of Barton Lloyd and Thelma Lucille (Robertson) Morrison.
Doris was a graduate of Crawford County High School in Cherokee, in 1944. Doris later attended Kansas State Teachers College in Pittsburg from 1944-1947 majoring in chemistry.
Doris and Arval Edward “Ned” Naylor were united in marriage October 11, 1947 at St. Bridget’s Catholic Church in Scammon. He preceded her in death July 26, 1995.
Doris worked for Cherokee County Social Services from 1948-1952. She was also a retired Licensed Kansas Funeral Director.
Doris was a member of St. Bridget’s Catholic Church; St. Bridget’s Altar Society; Chicopee Foundation; Sigma Sigma Sigma Soroitory at PSU from 1944-1947; Clarence Smith American Legion Post Auxiliary in Weir. She was an avid Bridge and card player. Doris kept a garden till age 96 and in her early years shot trap and hit 25 out of 25 on an afternoon round.
In addition to her husband and parents, Doris was preceded in death by son Chris Anthony Naylor, sister Wilma Vietti and a grand-daughter Anna Teresa Grimaldi.
Survivors include her children Nancy Naylor of Scammon; Joseph Edward Naylor and wife Sally, David William Naylor and Mary Barbara Naylor, all of Pittsburg; 12 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren also survive.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday January 8, at St. Bridget’s Catholic Church in Scammon, with Fr. Chris Martin officiating. Burial will follow at the St. Bridget’s Catholic Cemetery in Scammon. A rosary will be recited at 10 a.m. prior to the service at the church and family will receive friends from 9 a.m.-10 a.m. at the church prior to services. Informal visitation will be from noon-5 p.m. Tuesday January 7, at the Bath-Naylor Funeral Home and Crematory in Weir.
In lieu of flowers the family asks expressions of sympathy to be in the form of memorials to the St. Bridget’s Catholic Church. Friends may drop off or mail memorials to Bath-Naylor Funeral Home and Crematory 104 W. Main St. Weir, KS 66781.
