Halloween walk planned Sunday

The Columbus Chamber of Commerce retail committee will be hosting the Halloween Walk on Sunday evening, October 31. The walk will be held on Pine St. on the square from 4 p.m.. to 5:30 p.m. Children can come onto Pine from Kansas St. or Pennsylvania to visit the booths.

Chamber business encourages cornhole players to gather

When one thinks of their favorite fall activities, they might think of bonfires, hayrides or spook houses. With lower but still comfortable temperatures setting in to accompany a steadily earlier sunset, the time seems perfect for outdoor sports and activities.

Creep over, enter Zombie 5K

Zombie enthusiasts and others interested in running are encouraged to sign up for the Titan Band Zombie 5K run. Put on your most creative zombie attire and come run, crawl or creep your way to the finish line. Check in will begin at 5 p.m. Saturday, October 30 at Team Threads. Race begins at 6 p.

Creative scarecrows decorate Columbus square during festival

Each Tuesday at 10 a.m. youngsters are invited to attend the Johnston Public Library story time. There will be stories to hear and age appropriate activities. Photo by Dee Riley. Once again, crowds were treated to the annual bean feed during the Columbus Day Festival.

Photos, info sought for Veterans assembly

Columbus Unified High School will be honoring veterans November 11. There will be a breakfast held at 8:15 a.m. in the Columbus Unified High School cafeteria on that date for all veterans, current servicemen and a guest.

Fundraiser for injured firefighter set

A fundraiser chicken and noodle dinner is planned Saturday, November 6 from 11 a.m.-2 p.m. Proceeds will go to assist the family of Malachi Brown. Brown was injured while fighting a structure fire in Baxter Springs.

Labette Community College

Labette Community College recently hosted tryouts for the 2021-22 season spirit squad. After two rounds of tryouts, eight Labette Community College students have been named to the newly resurrected LCC Spirit Squad. The Spirit Squad had been dormant for the past several years.
