James G. (Jimmy) Johnson, 84, of Quapaw, Okla. died Monday, December 12, 2022 at Freeman Hospital in Joplin Missouri. Born December 29, 1937, in Cherokee County James was the son of Bill and Dimple Johnson. After his mother’s death, he was raised by his grandmother, Etta Nixon and his aunt and uncle, Faye and Jerry Feezell.
James attended Picher, Okla. Schools, graduating with the class of 1956. He joined the Air Force in July of 1956.
James and his high school sweetheart, Mickey Laramore were united in marriage July 11, 1959. After knowing each other since sixth grade, they officially began their lives together. Jim was a lifelong construction electrician employed mostly out of the IBEW Local 584 in Tulsa, Oklahoma and the Joplin Missouri Local 95. He was an excellent electrician and Mr. Fix-it of just about anything. He rode his Harley Davidson until two years ago when he decided it was time to stop.
One of Jim’s favorite things was to meet the guys at one of the local coffee shops, where they would solve many of the world’s problems. Both sons often called for help or advice on how to fix something that had them baffled and he was always available to help them.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents, grandmother, aunts and uncles, four of his sisters, Betty June, Irene, Jewel Boggs and Colleen Daugherty, brother Johnny and one brother who died with his Mother.
Jim is survived by his wife of 63 years; sons Jim (Jimbo) Johnson (wife Tina) and Jerry Johnson (wife Michelle); two granddaughters, Amanda Johnson of Oklahoma City , Okla. and Breanne Johnson of Fairland, Okla.; two grandson, Jay Johnson of Oklahoma City , Okla. and Jared Johnson (wife Caleigh) of Jacksonville, Florida; great granddaughter; and sister, Fae Moreland of Neosho, Mo.
Services for Jim will be held Saturday, December 17 at the Paul Thomas Funeral Home in Miami , Okla. at 11 a.m. with the visitation to follow at the Paul Thomas Family Center. There will be an opportunity for attendees to share special memories they might have of him.
After cremation Jim’s ashes to be buried in GAR Cemetery at a later date. In lieu of flowers, he requested donations to the Quapaw Methodist Church, in care of Sandy VonMoss, 708 McKinley, Miami, OK 74354
