Levi Simpson, Titan Eighth Grader, led the Columbus eighth grade boys team to a third place team finish and set a new school record with his first place finish in the 800M Run at the Galena Middle School Invitational Track and Field Meet, Tuesday. Levi ran a record-setting time of 2:17.44 minutes to top the previous record set in 1989 by Josiah Covert of 2:21.7 minutes.
Simpson also took first in the 1600M Run with a time of 5:21.85 minutes.
The Columbus Lady Titan Eighth Grade Track and Field Team took a first place team finish at the meet.
The Lady Titans scored 87 points to outdistance their hosts in second with 62 points. Riverton placed third with 60 team points in the field of 15 teams from Kansas and Missouri.
Tatum Kirk was the leading points earner for the Lady Titans with first place in the 100M Dash and the Long Jump. Laney Atkinson was first in the high jump and third in the 100M Hurdles
The 4x100M and 4x200M Relays both took first place
Braun Stone was second in the Pole Vault and Drake Laurance was third in high jump for the boys eighth grade team.
Kash Smith took first place in the seventh grade boys Shot Put event and the seventh grade 4x100M Relay team won first place.
Columbus was in Riverton yesterday and will be in Girard, April 13. The Girard Invitational will begin at 2 p.m
