The Columbus Unified High School Volleyball Team will play in the Kansas Class 3A Sub-State Tournament, tomorrow, in Riverton. The event begins at 1 p.m. with the Lady Titans (17-18) taking on Cherryvale (20-16) in the second match of the day. Seniors taking the court are Kaitlynn Lopp, Graci Major, Ava Harman, Kaitlyn Simpson, and Harley Long.

Lady Titans seeded fifth in sub-state

The Lady Titan Volleyball Team enters post season play at the Kansas Class 3A Sub-State Tournament in Riverton, tomorrow. Columbus is seeded fifth in the championship bracket with a 17-18 record. Frontenac received the number one seed with a 28-10 season record.

CJHS Lady Titan basketball opens

The Columbus Junior High School Lady Titan Basketball Team opens their 2023 schedule, Tuesday, at home against the Galena Lady Bulldogs. Tipoff for the opener will be 4:30 p.m. in the Central School New Gymnasium. The schedule continues with home games against Baxter Springs, October 30.

Titan 5-6th slay Purple Dragons

The Columbus Mini Titan Fifth and Sixth Grade Football Team improved to 4-1 on the season with a shut out over Pittsburg-Rush, 36-0, Saturday, in Pittsburg. Columbus opened with the ball. On the second play of the game, Jax Sharp took it to the house on a 51-yard touchdown run.

CUHS Volleyball wraps regular season

The Lady Titan Volleyball Team wrapped up their season on the road, in Baxter Springs, Coffeyville, and Pittsburg. October 10, Columbus split a triangular meet in Baxter Springs to take a two-set win over their hosts, 25-5; 25-12.

Lions win junior varsity finale

The Columbus Titans began their final junior varsity contest on the Baxter Springs gridiron a little short handed and by the time they had a full squad on the field, the Lions had built a 27-0, halftime lead that could not be overtaken. Baxter Springs held on for the win, 41-8.

The Columbus Area Youth Soccer League continues tomorrow with games on four fields beginning at 8 a.m. October 21 schedule Field 1-3/4 year olds 8 a.m. Subway vs Honey Bee Bakery 8:45 a.m. Randy’s Auto. vs Crossland Heavy 9:45 Optic Comm. vs Jay Hatfield Chevrolet Field 2-5/6 year olds 8 a.m.
The state competition for 4-H shooting sports was held the weekend of October 14 and 15. Youth competed individually in Trap and Skeet and as a team in Sporting Clays. Trap and Skeet shooting took place Saturday at Ark Valley Gun Club. The Sporting Clays team event was held Sunday at Sporting Training Center. Youth attending included Ben Major, Issac Major, Jaiden Gannaway, James Maxton, Josh Shultz, Montana Elmer and Wyatt Hall. Bob Shanks, Shooting Sports leader accompanied the team.

The Lady Titan Cross Country Team hosted the girls CNC League Meet, October 12, at the Brush Creek Golf Course. Junior, Kenadie Carter, sophomore, Darcy Garett, and freshman, Kennedy Riechardt placed out of the top-ten medal winners but were in the top 30 finishers.
