CUHS Special Olympics Golf helpers

Members of the Columbus Unified High School Girls Golf Team and Student Leaders were paired with guest athletes for the Special Olympics Golf Tournament held in Pittsburg last week.

Thompson, Lady Titans third at CJ

The Lady Titan Golf Team took a trip to Missouri for a non-conference, 18-hole tournament at Briarbrook Country Club, Monday. The tournament was hosted by Carl Junction High School with a number of large Missouri schools competing with Pittsburg and Columbus.

Lady Titan Junior, Mallory Thompson, shot well enough to place first in the Girard Invitational, Thursday, but lost the scorecard tiebreaker, to bring home a second place medal. She is being recognized as Titan of the Week.

Panthers edge Titan Eighth

The Pittsburg St. Mary’s-Colgan Panthers edged the Columbus Titan Eighth Grade Squad, 2420, in their home opener, Thursday. The Panthers built a 12-0 lead in the first quarter on a pair of touchdown passes from Gabe Brown to Max Imhof (58 yards) and Jackson Carson (70 yards).

Freshmen step up to varsity 5K

Five Titan Freshmen stepped up to try their hand at the varsity level, Thursday, at the Girard Cross County Meet. Drake Laurance finished in 14th place to earn a medal for his performance in the 5K race and Levi Simpson placed 22nd. The young runners completed the course in 19.26 minutes and 20.

Tash third at Girard CC meet

Myah Tash, Columbus Junior High Seventh Grader, placed third in the Girard Junior High Cross Country Meet, Thursday, with a time of 14.41 minutes. Lady Titan, Fallon Smiley, placed ninth (20.37 minutes). Cooper Grundy placed ninth in the boys seventh grade run with a time of 19.09 minutes.

Lady Titan Tennis opens season

The Lady Titan Tennis Team finally opened their season with a pair of backto- back tournaments following a heat delayed start. Junior, Hailey Ediger, is competing at the number one singles player for Columbus this season.

ESU win biggest surprise of week two

The Emporia State University Hornets overcame a 29-year draught and took down the fifth ranked, Northwest Missouri State University Bearcats, 33-13 in Maryville, Mo., Thursday, to earn the biggest upset in the week two football contest.
