The kick-off contest of the annual Columbus Merchants Football Contest is on Page 11 of today’s News-Report.This year the contest will run on Friday each week and the entries will be due in the News-Report office by noon Thursday.

The Titan Summer Weights program proved successful with 20 plus players posting an 80 percent or better attendance for the summer.

Basketball fundraiser tourney

The Columbus Unified High School Basketball Team is taking entries for a Golf Tournament to raise funds for the team.The event will be a two-man scramble format with a $100 per team entry fee. Cart fees are separate if needed.A shotgun start at 9 a.m.

Mined lands open to dove hunters

Sunflower fields will provide opportunities for dove hunters on the mined land wildlife area starting September 1.Sunflower production was good this year on two dove management fields located on the Mined Land Wildlife Area.

Titan Football preseason tee shirt fundraiser sales will run through August 27. There is a shipping option or you can pick-up orders September 15 at the CUHS gym.

Local wrestlers in Cowboy Rumble

Columbus Sixth Graders Lucas Natalini and Briggs Johnson were invited to compete on a 10 and under duals team in the Cowboy Rumble in Branson, Mo., August 2-3.The local grapplers were both in the Folkstyle individual competition as well as the team duals.

State qualifiers return for CC team

Practice begins today across the board for Columbus Unified High School and Junior High School athletes. The student body has two fewer activities to choose from with the loss of the girls Tennis Team and the Soccer Team due to low numbers in previous seasons.

Weather alters practice schedules

The weather is dictating the practice schedule for the Columbus Titan Football Team as the start time for their opening session was moved to 6:30 p.m. last night from the usual 3:30 p.m. start time.

Volleyball hits the court first

The Lady Titan Volleyball Team will be the first of the fall extracurricular activities to take the court/ field for the 2025 season. A jamboree August 28 will be the first competitive meeting for Columbus against the Labette County and Humboldt Squads in Altamont.
