CUHS Wrestlers sweep duals

The Columbus Titans swept their home double dual, Thursday, at the CUHS Gymnasium, taking big wins over former SEK League foes Fort Scott, 4824, and Iola, 56-12.Korbyn Newberry and Cal Saporito won both of their matches with pins in the 120-pound and 126-pound weight classes respectively.

Columbus third in 26-team tourney

The Columbus Titans captured third place at the 31st Annual Eureka Invitational Wrestling Tournament, Saturday, in Eureka. Eleven Titans earned 159 team points, 100 less that the tournament champion, Newton, at 259 team points with 12 wrestlers.Winfield’s 14 participants took second place with 217.

The Lady Titan Wrestlers took second place in the Fifth Annual Eureka Girls Invitational Tournament, Saturday. Scoring 120.5 points from eight participants, Columbus was not far behind Newton in first place with 146 team points from 12 wrestlers.McPherson placed third with 10 wrestlers scoring 112.

Forfeits give Ft. Scott dual win

Five forfeits proved costly to the Lady Titan Wrestling Team in a dual loss to Fort Scott, 45-18, Thursday in Columbus.The Lady Tigers picked up 30 points from empty slots in the Columbus roster. Three additional open slots were also empty on the Fort Scott roster resulting in double forfeits.

The Columbus Titans weren’t able to overcome their seeding, taking eighth place in the 33rd Annual Lancer Classic Basketball Tournament at Southeast High School, Saturday.

The Southeast Lady Lancers won the consolation title of the 33rd Annual Lancer Classic Basketball Tournament with a win over Columbus, 44-36, Saturday, in Cherokee.
