BHS Homecoming scheduled Friday

After Baxter Springs USD508 shut down for an extra-long weekend earlier in the month due to a community COVID outbreak, the Baxter Springs High School Homecoming festivities have been rescheduled for Friday, January 28. Varsity Lady Lions will tip off at 6 p.m.

Zahm named January ‘Lion of the Month’

Lion of the Month for January was presented to Kate Zahm at a recent Lions Club meeting. Zahm, a senior at Columbus Unified High School, is secretary of the LEO Club. She is a four year member of the Lady Titan volleyball team and was an All-CNC Honorable Mention in 2019.

Nations, like people, have special parties and observances to celebrate birthdays and other successes. In 1876, the United States celebrated its 100th birthday with the Centennial Exhibition of 1876 in Philadelphia. It started on May 10 of that year.

Gudrun Hale serves up biscuits

Gudrun Hale serves up biscuits and gravy at the American Legion Auxiliary monthly breakfast Saturday, January 8. Once again, the breakfast was so popular that the cooks sold out early. The monthly breakfast is usually held the second Saturday of the month.
