In the Columbus Day 5K women’s division, Lottie Bass placed first in the ages 50-59 group with a time of 27:49 . Marcia Smith placed third with a time of 31:07. Not pictured, Suzette Henderson placed second with a time of 31:00.

Winter Forage Conference planned

The Kansas Forage and Grassland Council and Kansas State University will host their annual Winter Forage Conference from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Thursday, December 8 at the Harvey County 4-H Building in Newton.

FCC chili, soup fest set November 5

A nip is in the air and that means it is time for the annual First Christian Church chili and soup fest. Located at 128 W. Elm, FCC will host the drive-thru only event Friday, November 5.

Girl Scouts will host baked potato fundraiser

A baked potato fundraiser for the Cherokee County Girl Scouts will be held Tuesday, November 9 at the Columbus Girl Scout House from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. A suggested donation of $7 will provide the diner with a loaded baked pota to, drink and dessert.

Scottish Rite meeting requests reservations

All members of the Southeast Kansas Scottish Rite are ask to attend the Stated Dinner and Meeting Thursday, November 4, 2021 at the Armstrong Masonic Lodge, 3105 North Joplin Street, Pittsburg. Social Hour begins at 5:30 p.m., Dinner will be at 6:30 p.m.

Food collection begins for Thanksgiving baskets

Columbus Area Churches, Mercy Hospital Columbus, Columbus Medicalodge, Crossland Construction, Columbus High School, PEO Chapter V and PACCC are collecting food for Thanksgiving food baskets. Last year one hundred and sixty-five families received a Thanksgiving basket.

At the recent Horse Banquet youth received awards for their accomplishments. Ezekial Paxson was recognized for Junior Showmanship. Airauana Sharp was recognized at the recent Horse Banquet. She was honored for Champion Pony and Intermediate Showmanship.
