Green is member of month for November

For the month of November, Cherokee County 4-H has announced that Rebecca Green is the member of the month. Green is a member of the Lone Elm Beavers Club. She is 16 years old and a junior at Columbus Unified High School, is on the Lady Titan Tennis Team and is a member of the Leo Club.

The Columbus Public Library will be open to the public, with a five person limit. Mondays 9 p.m.-6 p.m. Tuesdays 9 a.m.-6 p.m. Thursdays 8 a.m.-11 a.m. Wednesdays 10 a.m.-2 p.m By appointment only. Thursdays 9 a.m.-6 p.m. Fridays 9 a.m. - noon. Saturdays 10 a.m.

Mercy Columbus staff decorates pumpkins for fun, prizes

The “Ice Cream” design was submitted by Macy Roberts as part of Mercy Hospital’s pumpkin contest this year. The display features two pink scoops of ice cream that are adorned with whipped cream and a cherry. The design won the first place prize of a gift basket and a mum.

VFW plans noodle meal fundraiser

A chicken and noodle dinner will be served at the Columbus VFW Friday, November 5. They will be serving chicken and noodles, mashed potatoes, green beans and dinner roll for a $7 donation. All donations go to the VFW to support local veterans.

Columbus officially welcomes Grace Lanes Bowling

Weekends and evenings in Columbus just got even more exciting. Grace Lanes Bowling at 239 W Maple had a ribbon cutting ceremony Friday morning, October 22, to officially open their doors. Nearly thirty representatives from around town were in attendance from local businesses and organizations.

Columbus City Park gets fresh planting by PRIDE group

Baxter Springs USD508 has earned a dividend from EMC Insurance Companies for its participation in EMC’s Kansas School District Insurance Program. The Kingrey Kellum Agency of Baxter Springs, serves as the insurance agent for the district.

Library receives new addition

Employees from Concrete Flat Work (above) walk around their landscaping site on the South side of the Columbus Public Library. The crew was set to have installed a wood plank stamp on the property’s lawn by Monday. Below the freshly installed work is an artistic addition to the library lawn.

Southeast alum published in literary journal

Twenty-eight Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society (PTK) members will have their writing published in the 2021 issue of PTK’s online literary journal, Nota Bene. Peyton Simpson, 2019 Southeast High School graduate and Labette Community College Tau Theta graduate, is one of the 28 to be published.
