Sportsmen’s annual fishing derby Saturday

It’s time for the annual free fishing derby sponsored by Cherokee County Sportsmen’s Fish and Game Association. The event is open to youth ages 16 and under and includes four age groups: six and under, seven-nine, 10-12 and 1316. There will be a casting contest as well.

Labette Community College (LCC) hosted motivational speaker, Mark Potter, former head basketball coach, and teacher, Tuesday, August 29. Coach Potter’s message to LCC’s students, athletes, staff, and faculty was one of hope, shatter the stigma, and don’t suffer in silence.

FCC hosts film night, cookout

A film night and cookout will be held Sunday, September 10 at Columbus First Christian Church in Columbus. According to Pastor Cody Bohall, the community is welcome to attend. The event will begin at 4 p.m. at the church, 128 W. Elm.

Sheridan Homemakers plan historical study

In September, Sheridan Homemakers will kick off its two-part study of the Sendler project. The first event, Thursday, September 21 in the meeting room at the Extension Office will be a movie. The movie will start promptly at 1:30 p.m. and run for 1 3/4 hours.
