Sunday nights storms did considerable damage to locations in and around Hallowell and Sherwin. At least one building was demolished and a grain bin sustained severe damage.
While the house looks to be mostly sound, the tops of the surrounding trees were snapped off and debris could be seen scattered for at least a mile along Highway 160 west of Columbus.
Utility crews were out in full force in an effort to restore power to area residents left without during Sunday’s storms. Heartland REC reported more than 30 of their poles in the Columbus area were down and transmission lines to Columbus Substation had sustained massive damage. Original reports were that power would not be restored until 3 p.m. Tuesday afternoon. However as of 11:53 a.m. Monday, Heartland reported all Columbus feeders were back online.
Two tornadoes were reported to have been on the ground near Columbus and despite damage in a number of locations, no injuries were reported. Continued on Page 3
