Law Enforcement agencies from Cherokee County met for the annual Cherokee County Law Enforcement Awards Banquet
Law Enforcement agencies from Cherokee County met for the annual Cherokee County Law Enforcement Awards Banquet, Thursday May 15 at Bethel Church in Baxter Springs. Several awards were presented to members who serve with the Baxter Springs Police Department, Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office, Columbus Police Department, and the Galena Police Department.
Calvin Reeser received the Baxter Springs Officer of the year award presented by Chief of Police Jimmy Hamilton.
Melissa West was the Galena recipient of the Support Staff Member of the Year Award.
Galena Lt. Christopher Gordon, assistant Chief, received the Chief’s Award for his work in the department.
The Public Safety Award is given to an officer that demonstrates exceptional performance and commitment to promoting public safety through traffic law and DUI enforcement. This year’s award recipient has excelled in this task, stopping over 85 cars and making 12 DUI arrests. Galena Police Department that the recipient of this year’s Public Safety Award goes to Officer Korbin Copher. Chief Chad Allison presented the award
Galena Police Master Patrol Officer Autumn McCool was the recipient of the Community Engagement award.
Receiving the Letter of Excellence Award Dispatcher Abriona Gepford from the Sheriff’s Department.
Baxter Springs Police Chief Jimmy Hamilton presented Rhanda Andrews with the Meritorious Service award.
The Sheriff ‘s Honor Guard opened the Awards Night with a Salute to the Flag.
Sheriff Brian Henderson and Undersheriff Chip Root presented the Sheriff Deputy of the Year award to Sam Snell.
Those receiving the Letter of Excellence award included Deputy Dave Lovewell, Sheriff Brian Henderson presenting the award, Deputy Zack Davis, Those receiving the award but not pictured are Detention Sargent Chaney McDaniel, and Deputy Abby Porter.
Deputies recognized with Grand Cordon awards were presented certificates. Those pictured were Captain Matt Campbell, Sgt. Chris Wren, Deputy Aaron Cockerel and Deputy Cory Moates. Not pictured but receiving award was Undersheriff Chip Root.

Ashley Zamora who reached out to Chief Jimmy Hamilton to serve as a translator on the Police Department and in the Municipal Court received the award as the Chief’s Achievement Award
Sheriff Henderson presented Detention Deputy of the Year April McAfee with her award.
The Officer of the Year award is given to an officer that has demonstrated consistent outstanding service to the department, community, and professional skill throughout the year. Galena Corporal Cameron Pinyan received the award.
Makenzie Robinson was named Baxter Springs officer of the year.
The Sheriff’s Department Civilian Employee of the Year Megan Greenlee received her certificate from Sheriff Henderson.
