Tonight at the Columbus Genealogy Society will host speakers from the Orphan Train Complex in Concordia. The train left children throughout Kansas including several in Cherokee County. Most of the children were from the streets and orphanages of New York City.
The Orphan Train Exhibit is currently on display in the local Genealogical Library and visitors have been impressed by the exhibit.
A special program about the Orphan Train tonight, Tuesday, August 5, at 6:30 p.m. in the Genealogy Library.
Tonight there will be four speakers. One of the speakers, Retha Thomas, of Joplin, will tell about her grandmother’s adventure as an orphan train rider.
