Post office burglary suspect arrested

A suspect has been arrested in the recent series of post office burglaries. Detectives with the Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office investigating the cases in West Mineral, Scammon and Weir, submitted their information to the Cherokee County Attorney’s office.

Grant to provide post mastectomy resources

The Cherokee County Health Department has received a grant from the Community Foundation of Southeast Kansas, Rita Bicknell Women’s Health Fund, Women’s Giving Circle Grant, to provide post-mastectomy bras and prosthetics to women located in the Cherokee County area.

Former police lieutenant sentenced to KDOC

A former Columbus City Police lieutenant who was arrested in 2024 on child sex offenses has been admitted to the Cherokee County Law Enforcement Center awaiting transfer to Kansas Department of Corrections.David Justice, 57, was arrested in April 2024 after a year-long investigation.

Chamber dinner RSVP extended

The annual Chamber of Commerce Dinner will be held Wednesday, January 28 at the State Theatre Event Center. Social hour will begin at 5:45 p.m. followed by dinner and entertainment at approximately 7 p.m.RSVP deadline has been extended to Thursday, January 22.
