Jeanne L. Mattes, 98, formerly of Joplin, died Thursday, January 4, 2024 in Springfield, Missouri.
Born April 24, 1925 in Baxter Springs, Jeanne was the daughter of the late Homer and Thelma (Riseling) Galyon. She graduated from Joplin High School in 1943 and married John T. Mattes in 1947. They celebrated 54 years of marriage before his death in 2001.
She was a stay-athome mom taking care of her family. Jeanne was a longtime member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church. She was a very giving person and loved the 45 years she volunteered with the St. John’s Hospital Auxiliary.
She was a former president of the organization and enjoyed many years running the “Cheer Cart” and information desk at the hospital. She had a passion for her volunteer work and being able to help at the hospital.
Survivors include her daughter, Malaine Ballard (Tim Patterson) of Joplin, Mo., son Chris Mattes of Springfield, Mo., and a granddaughter, Carlee Ballard of Joplin.
Graveside services will be held Wednesday, January 10 at 2 p.m. at the Mount Hope Cemetery Pavilion.
The family requests that in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions be made to the Joplin Humane Society in care of Parker Mortuary.
