American history is wrought with stories of sailing ships. For example, the Star Spangled Banner, our National Anthem, was written aboard a sailing ship. The country’s first English settlers came from the 110 passengers of the Mayflower, a ship which also carried basis of our form of government, the Mayflower Compact.
